About Us
Donna McConn
Owner, Golden Retreat for K9s
In 2009 after the loss of my dog Bruno I decided that I wanted to take care of other people’s dogs. I started pet sitting in my home and dog walking. My dog boarding hotel opened in June of 2010 and was recognized in 2013 in Washingtonian Magazine’s July Issue. My love of dogs and animals is my life. My dream many years ago was to open a dog boarding kennel and I am finally able to do so.
I am the President for Colonial Newfoundland Rescue. I assist two other rescues helping find homes for Great Pyrenees and Golden Retrievers. In addition I am on the board of directors for Companion Bridge, a non-profit organization, which helps pet owners deal with difficult health issues with their dog, cat or other animal. I have had dogs for 40 years and have learned much about their behavior, personalities and traits.
I have had training for administering medications, first aid and caring for dogs with illnesses. I have much knowledge of proper nutrition for dogs. I have earned the respect of colleagues through hard work and dedication. My previous professional experience was in the security industry selling and servicing security systems for large fortune 500 companies. Additional experience involved marketing and advertising for security companies. I have multiple colleagues in the pet industry and regularly consult with veterinarians, pet groomers and other professionals.
